A sofa table, sometimes also called a console table, is a long and narrow accent table that is meant to be placed up against the back of a sofa. This arrangement piggybacks on the sofa’s footprint to add a perfect spot for additional lighting, storage, or display, that doesn’t interfere with the flow of the room. If placed directly between your sofa and a wall, sofa tables can provide a convenient place to set remotes or drinks to keep them close at hand while watching your favorite show or enjoying time with family. Having that space between the sofa and the wall can also make your room seem more airy and open. In addition to their utility in conjunction with a couch, sofa tables can work equally well nestled against a wall as an entryway table or accent table. They are just wide enough to provide the perfect spot to leave keys or a purse for convenience when walking in the door, and easy access when leaving again.

When choosing a sofa table for your home, you may want to consider the location you will be placing the table, if you would like any extra storage features, and what style or shape you would prefer. The location is important to consider so that you can purchase a table that is of a complementary size to the place you intend to put it. If you are going to place the table behind a sofa, it should be a height that is just an inch or two shorter than the back of the sofa. If you are placing the table in a hall or entryway, you want to look out for the depth of the table so that it doesn’t stick out too far and dominate the space or impede the function of the area. In terms of extra storage features, we carry sofa tables that feature drawers, cabinets or shelves underneath, as well as a couple specialized options with holders to store wine or glassware. When it comes to design, sofa tables come in many different shapes including long rectangles, half-moon or “demilune,” and a variety of options that feature a flat back to go against the wall and a front with angled or curved variations.
