A ceiling fan light kit is a helpful set which includes all the components needed to install or replace a light on a ceiling fan. Light kits are a quick and easy way to upgrade your fan and bring a bit of extra illumination to any room.

When selecting the right light kit to complement your fan, you should consider both the style of lamp and the amount of light that you would like it to project in your space. Although many might not think of them as a design feature, lights for ceiling fans come in a wide range of styles from traditional globe lights and glass shaded lamps to modern drum shade fixtures. Any of these can contribute to the design of a space and help it stay both stylish and comfortable.

The amount of lighting that a fan light kit provides depends on the design of the specific fixture that you select. For example, a small globe light would offer less area lighting than a multi light fixture that features five lamps. Also consider the type of shade or surround that the lamp(s) has, as the more opaque the shade is, the more direct the light will be; a more translucent shade on the other hand, will provide more diffused light.

When it comes to installation, although many are daunted by the task of electrical work, light kits are surprisingly simple to mount. Nearly all ceiling fans already have the necessary wiring built in and ready for use. Connecting the light is simply a matter of opening the fan and attaching two interior wires to your light kit. Then once the lamp is mounted on the fan, it is ready for use. Note: always make sure that your fixture is both off and disconnected from electricity before beginning any work on it!
