Adirondack Christmas

Whether your plans for the holidays involve rest and relaxation or getting out into nature with friends and family, a cozy Adirondack cabin is the perfect setting for a celebration.  No matter what activities the days hold, evenings huddled in front of a roaring fireplace, surrounded by twinkling lights and the smell of pine trees, are what we’ve been waiting for all year.

In this beautiful and unique part of New York state, the Adirondack mountains spend most of the year blanketed in snow and the air is crisp and clear. These mountains are more than 5,000,000 years old, cover millions of acres and home to many cold-weather getaways with rich histories of design. Inside, plaids, checks, and warm wood hues work any time of year here, creating the perfect backdrop for holiday decorating. But you don’t have to live in the Adirondacks to bring home the charm. This Paris Cocktail Table with a Min-style silhouette adds a touch of elegance set over a camp-style rug, grounding the room with color and pattern. Keep your bar cart fully stocked for evenings spent curled up on this warm Chesterfield sofa, imbibing your favorite holiday drink and sharing stories of the past year.

Adirondack Christmas Decorations

Our favorite decorating ideas are the ones requiring the least work for the biggest impact. Filling a clear glass hurricane with simple red ornaments instantly turns everything merry. This faux Douglas fur and coordinating garland are a perfect way to add holiday cheer with zero stress and mess (you’ll have to touch it to tell it wasn’t plucked from the farm!).  For a more personal touch, add pine cones, ribbon, and an assortment of ornaments. You don’t have to limit the Christmas presents to the foot of the tree. Beautifully wrapping paper and ribbon deserve to be admired. Layer them on a side table or coffee table to add interest, texture, and height.

As much as I love the more-is-more approach to design, sometimes a bit of restraint is important. If your tree is the showstopper, try a more understated mantle with garland, twinkling lights, and stockings. A simple, hand-painted bowl of pine cones and a pair of framed bird prints bring the outside in.

Adirondack Inspired Christmas

Adirondack life can inspire a cozy fireside Christmas anywhere you live. Simply layer in some of the pieces here to what you already have, adding a woodsy touch anywhere they go. Start off with a simple pre-lit wreath, then look for #mindfinds that speak to you and your traditions, both new and old. And think outside the box: Jingle bells are not just for the reindeer and ornaments are not just for the tree. Gather up your favorite Christmas elves to create some handmade decorations, pull out your floral wire and have some fun!
