Jon Call

Jon Call studied architecture in Seattle at Cornish College of the Arts before moving to New York to work for Diamond Baratta, where he was immersed in their world of vivid color, custom furniture, and storied tradition. After that, he worked for Shawn Henderson, another young designer known for his elegant and structured interiors, before venturing out on his own in 2010.

Today, he owns and operates Mr. Call Designs, a boutique design firm offering comprehensive architectural, interior and product design services for residential, retail and hospitality clients. In 2012, Call was selected by House Beautiful as one of their "Next Wave" designers and has never looked back. He has since been featured in Elle Décor, The New York Times, Dwell, Vogue Italia, Details and a variety of other print and digital publications.

Call's design studio has completed a diverse portfolio of projects; the architecture and interiors for an historic Old Greenwich, Connecticut estate; a commission for a modern colonial home in Santa Monica, California and an 11,000 square-foot town home in the West Village of New York.

Jon Call is also the Creative Director and Lifestyle Consultant for 18 Universities across the United States.

"To this day, the homes I am drawn to have this attitude of relaxed elegance where you always know where to put your feet up," Call says. Drawing from his Seattle roots and sensibility, Call balances casual lifestyle design with a high level of sophistication.

The challenge for me is to create interiors that have purpose, that actually elevate someone's life on a daily basis.

Questions and Answers

Q: "What's the best advice you've ever received?"

A: "A home is always a work in progress."

Q: "What's your most desired superpower?"

A: "Time travel. I would like to have coffee with Picasso and ask him what he was REALLY thinking."

Q: "What would you be if you weren't an interior designer?

A: "If I wasn't a designer, I would be a chef."

Q: "What's the design rule you love to break?"

A: "I have always been told to start the design of a room with a rug. This seems rather limiting. Instead, opt to gain inspiration from the art, the views, the architecture, or just something random all together. It usually nets more interesting results."

Q: "What's the easiest way to transform a room?"

A: "Clean it."
