ABOUT ASHLEY WHITTAKER

Described as the "neo-traditionalist", Ashley Whittaker reveals her fresh and modern perspective on traditional design and architecture in all of her work. The New York City decorator's hallmarks are distinctively classic taste and chic sophistication. Characterized by tailored rooms that incorporate charming detail and engaging play on color and pattern, Whittaker's signature style is immediately evident.

Ashley's work has been published in The New York Times, Southern Living, Coastal Living, Domino, and most notably, on the cover of House Beautiful on five separate occasions. Achieving instant and renowned respect from the industry, Ashley shows a natural and effortless ability to create flawless interiors.

A Florida native, Ashley received her bachelor degree from St. Lawrence University. Ashley credits her training in the design industry to legendary decorator, Markham Roberts, for whom she worked before starting out on her own in 2006. Her work includes projects in New York, Florida, Connecticut, California and Montana.

This week, Ashley Whittaker brings her tailored-with-a-twist style to this weeks' 52 Weeks of Design. Make sure to check out her personal picks to get her looks in your home!

Room Designed by Ashley Whittaker

Rooms need to feel lived in and collected - not just decorated. Anyone can coordinate a fabric scheme but it's the antiques, objects and artwork that make a room feel finished. Nothing makes me happier than visiting a client 10 years down the road to find the arms of a favorite living room chair worn through. That's when we know we've done our job. We design homes to be lived in and loved.

Questions and Answers

Q: "What's your design motto?"

A: "Design should be beautiful, personal and most of all livable. Albert Hadley once said, 'Make your home as comfortable and attractive as possible, then get on with living.'"

Q: "What is the easiest way to transform a room?"

A: "Look at your furniture plan and get the furniture out of the center of the room. Expand the space by placing a game table, chairs or a desk in front of a window. It makes any room more dynamic."

Q: "No room is complete without ___________."

A: "... artwork."

Q: "If you could live anywhere, where would you live?"

A: "I live in New York City, the greatest city in the world, with a country house in bucolic Dutchess County. I wouldn't change a thing!"

Q: "What's your favorite getaway?"

A: "Bahamas in June. It's wildly underrated."
