Alan Tanksley

The Mine welcomes interior designer Alan Tanksley to Week 33 of 52 Weeks of Design,
known for his elegant high-end designs and mix-and-match philosophy.

Alan Tanksley

Alan Tanksley is among America's leading practitioners of residential design and is known for detailed interior space planning, custom furniture and fixture design. Renowned as an expert colorist, Mr. Tanksley creates subtle palettes that ultimately make the interior spaces he designs simultaneously sophisticated and relaxing. His past relationships with leading architects such as Maya Lin, James Dayton, Robert Orr and Harry Elson give his firm the unusual ability to draw on expert talents to implement a wide range of architectural renovations for each project.

Mr. Tanksley is a graduate of Arizona State University's School of Architecture specializing in interior architecture. Tanksley worked as an associate with distinguished designer Mark Hampton on the design and supervision of many of the company's most notable residential projects. Prior to founding his own firm in 1993, Alan Tanksley partnered with renowned New York City interior designer Paula Perlini.

Mr. Tanksley's work has been widely seen in such publications as Architectural Digest, Interior Design, House & Garden, Art & Antiques and Metropolitan Home in addition to Elle Decor.

Between designing homes for Anderson Cooper and J. Mendel creative director Gilles Mendel, Alan Tanksley donates his time and talent between many nonprofit organizations including Housing Works, Design on a Dime, Bailey House, House & Garden's Annual New York Botanical Garden "Orchid Dinner" and "Dining by Design" sponsored by Elle Decor.

I like to create subtle palettes that ultimately manage to make every interior space both sophisticated and relaxing simultaneously. A modern approach to classic style focusing on the needs of my client. I make every effort to accommodate my clients and to show them the possibilities for the designs they try to translate into words but often cannot.
